Saving America – Part III

Three days have passed since Joe started working at CIA helping them to find out the last bomb, once they’ve found the other ones and deactivated them. Nothing had been shown on the TV because the last bomb hadn’t still been found and according to them, the terrorists hadn’t yet realized that the other bombs had been deactivated. Joe worked hard trying to figure everything out but nothing had been accomplished.

Two days later, a CIA agent, called Larry, who is in charge of the building security saw something really odd happening. Two guys, who identified themselves as the ventilation system maintainers showed them some documents approving them to enter in the building. They were carrying a laptop and a package full of tools in order to make what they were supposed to. They got in and started checking the ventilation system. So far nothing was wrong until they asked to get into the ventilation tubing and check whether everything was OK there in. They said it was a normal practice, since they discovered that any irregularity in the tubes could be a bad thing to people health, then the agents let them do so.

Larry didn’t really do anything, he had been working at CIA for nearly 8 years, and nothing had ever happened with the ventilation system maintainers. Joe was still trying to catch the precise location of the last bomb, but he was a little bit more apprehensive, because nothing had been found and they only had two days remaining. At that point, the president and his family were in a secure unknown location while everything was turning out.

During the week no one had gone home. As the days passed everyone was getting more and more apprehensive. On Saturday, one day before the last bomb was supposed to explode, Joe worked twice as much, seeking the homeland security to come back. At noon he was really hungry, he went to the nearer telephone and ordered a Big Mac from DC’s McDonald’s. While waiting for it to arrive, he went to the restroom to wash his face and when he looked at the mirror, he saw a strange piece of plastic on the ventilation tub at the ceiling.

He rapidly took a chair and checked the plastic piece nearer. He saw it was a mass-storage device. He took to the office in which he was working and opened it up on the computer while calling everyone to go there and see what he found. On the device’s shell, somebody’s name was written, but it didn’t matter! When they opened the single file that was stored in the device, they were surprised! A map of the CIA headquarters with a red point right on the director’s office with the following caption: The last present.

Everyone could see what that meant! The director wasn’t there, so they called the department responsible to deal with bombs and went there, founding it! They deactivated the whole thing and commemorated a lot! They made an Emergency Alert Broadcast saying to the American people what had happened and then, Joe could eat his Big Mac, that had just arrived!

You must be wondering what happened to Larry, right? Well, he was fired! 😀 And about the mass-storage device, the “maintainers” forgot it there. The terrorists were found, once the map also had their location and Joe applied to a job at CIA as the Computer Network Security Director. Yes! Now he is in charge of the security of the network he once hacked! 😀
